Posted September 15, 2011

The Institute for English Language Programs in the Division of Continuing Education, in collaboration with GSAS, offers a program for GSAS students leading to a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CITESOL).To begin this program in spring 2012, interested students must complete the application requirements before January 1, 2012.

The program, which normally takes 15 months to complete, requires knowledge of linguistics and the history of the English language and includes directed reading and research in applied linguistics as well as a practicum in teaching English to speakers of other languages.  To be eligible for admission to the CITESOL program, candidates must have passed their general exams; admitted students must continue their doctoral studies while completing the requirements for the certificate.
