Eli Tziperman
Dinosaur Forecast: Cloudy — And Other Lessons from Past Warm Climates

The Earth's climate was exceptionally warm some tens of millions of years ago, including during part of the dinosaur era. Crocodiles and palm trees, which cannot survive a few nights of sub-freezing temperatures, could be found in the waters of Greenland and in the middle of present day Wyoming, where current winter temperatures can drop to -40. Explaining past warm climates turns out to be non-trivial: the explanations carry surprising implications for future climate as well. Eli Tziperman, Pamela and Vasco McCoy Jr. Professor of Oceanography and Applied Physics, will talk through some recent research on the subject and help chart those future implications.
