Thinking About a Nonacademic Career?

September 28, 2011

Exploring Careers in Science and Engineering: Beyond the Bench, Wednesday, October 12, 4:00-5:30pm in Maxwell Dworkin 119. Hear advice and stories from engineers and scientists who have ventured beyond the bench into a wide variety of careers such as patent law, consulting, government, policy, and business.

Don’t miss the Harvard Job & Internship Fair on Friday, October 14, 1:30-4:00pm at the Sheraton Commander Hotel in Harvard Square. Learn about job and internship opportunities and meet with representatives from 75 organizations.  More targeted career fairs offer great networking opportunities (though they are primarily geared toward undergraduates): Crimson Journalism Fair, Thursday, October 6 (registration required); AMP Expo: Advertising Marketing and Public Relations, Friday October 21, 2:00-5:00pm at OCS.

Evaluating and Negotiating Job Offers, Friday, October 28, 10:00-11:30am in the OCS Conference Room.  Can you still negotiate in a tough economic market? Yes! Evaluating compensation packages and determining whether and how to negotiate is often the most stressful part of the job search for students. Lack of negotiation experience, unfamiliarity with the expectations and assumptions, and the commitment inherent in accepting an offer, all present an imposing situation. In this workshop, we will discuss what you should look for in a compensation package and how to negotiate with confidence.
