Steps to Degree
GSAS March 2014 Degree Timeline
November 25 – Deadline for submission of degree applications
January 17 – Deadline for submission of dissertation to Registrar’s Office
If the dissertation is not submitted on this date, the student becomes a May degree candidate and the student must register for the spring term.
For terminal master’s degree candidates: January 17 is the deadline for submission of degree recommendations for March terminal master’s degree candidates. Students receiving their terminal master’s degree in March do not need to register for the spring term. If the degree recommendation is not submitted by January 17, the student should register for the spring term and will be a May degree candidate.
January 27 – GSAS registration deadline. Any student who has not submitted a dissertation by January 17 must register. Students who do not register will lose the privileges of being an active student (access to libraries, e-resources, buildings, deferral of student loans, eligibility for student health insurance, etc.)
February 28 – Waiver application deadline for the Student Health Insurance Plan. If a student misses the January 17 dissertation submission deadline and must register for the spring term, the student has until February 28 to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan provided the student has comparable insurance. All March degree candidates who have comparable health insurance coverage are encouraged to submit a Student Health Insurance Plan waiver application in the event that they don’t complete their dissertation during the expected timeframe. Note that waivers only apply to the Student Health Insurance Plan and not the Student Health Fee, which is a mandatory fee for all full-time registered students.
March graduates are not eligible for health insurance beyond the fall term.
