Interns will also attend weekly group meetings and faculty lectures. The Center's researchers come from diverse backgrounds and fields of science, from biology (including genetics, cell biology and evolution) to applied mathematics and computation. The internship includes field trips to other local institutes, such as Harvard Medical School and the Broad Institutehttp://sysbio.harvard.edu/csb/jobs/undergraduate.html Summer Program in Quantitative Sciences at the Harvard School of Public HealthThe Summer Program is an intensive 4-week introduction to biostatistics, epidemiology, and public health research. Based at the Harvard School of Public Health, this program is designed to introduce qualified undergraduates to the use of quantitative methods for biological, environmental and medical research purposes, and to demonstrate the application of quantitative methods to the study of human health.http://biosun1.harvard.edu/diversity/summer/spb-intro.html Dental Summer Research Program at the Harvard School of Dental MedicineThe Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) hosts an eight-week, paid summer research program for undergraduate students, particularly those from underrepresented minority groups, who are considering careers in dentistry and are interested in enhancing their background in research. Each year, two students are selected; each participant is assigned a faculty member at HSDM who serves as a research mentor to supervise the student's research project in basic science or public health epidemiology. For more information contact Anne L. Berg | (617) 432-1342 | anne_berg@hsdm.harvard.edu Summer Research Trainee Program (SRTP) at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)The goal of the SRTP program is to provide underrepresented minority students with an eight week overview of opportunities available in biomedical research and clinical medicine. Students are assigned to MGH laboratories or clinical sites where they undertake original research projects and prepare oral or written presentations of their work under the mentorship of an MGH investigator. The program is open to underrepresented minority students who have completed at least three years of college and/or first and second year medical students; no prior research experience is necessary.http://www.massgeneral.org/mao/summer.html Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (CURE) Program at Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC)The CURE program introduces high school and college students from underrepresented minority populations to the world of cancer research. Each year several students are selected for CURE internships, which are delivered via a 9 week full-time summer program or a 2 year part-time experience. Participants are assigned individual advisors and do hands-on cancer research work as well as attend seminars, obtain career/professional development counseling, and learn about issues and ethics in research. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a biomedical or health-related career.http://www.dfhcc.harvard.edu/center-initiatives/iecd/student-training/cure-program/ Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) Harvard Stem Cell Institute Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP)SURP provides an opportunity for Harvard and non-Harvard undergraduates to gain direct experience in stem cell research while working in a Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) laboratory under the supervision of an experienced researcher. Interns participate in a stem cell seminar series and a career pathways presentation, and present their summer research findings in the SURP Symposium. Candidates must express a strong interest in stem cell biology, but not necessarily have previous lab experience. Approximately 35 students are selected for 10 week internships; longer engagements may be arranged by mutual agreement.http://stemcell.harvard.edu/education/internship Summer Undergraduate Program in Immunology at Harvard Medical SchoolThe Immunology Graduate Program at Harvard Medical School offers a 10 week Summer Undergraduate Program in Immunology. This internship program provides participants with a combination of weekly lectures and laboratory work with faculty from the Immunology Graduate Program, and includes extensive interactions with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The intent of this initiative is to provide undergraduate students with an exposure to current topics in immunology. Participants from colleges in which the topic is not taught or presented in depth are especially welcome, and individuals from under-represented minority groups are especially encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to students who are in their sophomore or junior year.http://www.hms.harvard.edu/dms/immunology/SummerProgram.html Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied SciencesThe School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program is a mechanism for integrating a broad spectrum of undergraduates into bioengineering, materials research, nanoscience, and engineering. REU provides its interns with a coordinated, educational and dynamic research community to inspire and encourage them to continue on to graduate school. Summer research opportunities for undergraduates are arranged in conjunction with the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC), the Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center (NSEC), as well as other Harvard-based engineering and science entities.
