Commencement

Ticket Information

To accommodate the increasing number of guests wishing to attend Harvard University Commencement Exercises, degree candidates will receive a limited number of tickets to distribute. Guests must have tickets to most events. A ticket allows admission, but does not guarantee a seat. Selling Commencement tickets is prohibited.

Security

Heightened security measures will be in effect for Commencement and delays can be expected. You may be required to pass through metal detectors to enter Tercentenary Theatre. The gates allowing guests' access to Harvard Yard will open at 6:45 a.m.

Following is a schedule for Commencement events. Please note that times on Thursday are approximate given that some events overlap.

4-6 pm Masters' Reception for degree candidates and their guests in the Dudley House Dining Room, Lehman Hall, Harvard Yard

Thursday, June 7, 2007

6:45 am Harvard Yard gates open for all guests

7:00 am GSAS Breakfast with the Deans, Gropius Lawns behind Perkins Hall, 35 Oxford Street, for all degree candidates and their guests.

7:45 am GSAS Procession from the 35 Oxford Street to Sever Quadrangle

8:05 am Degree candidates and their guests line up next to Emerson Hall in Sever Quadrangle

8:50 am Academic Procession Begins

9:45 am Morning Exercises begin in Harvard Yard

The Deans of each School introduce the graduates as a group. Then, President Bok confers the degrees on each School's students as a group. Seating for guests is extremely limited and cannot be guaranteed.

11:30 am Champagne reception begins on the Gropius Lawns behind Perkins Hall, 35 Oxford Street, and continues until approximately 3:00 p.m., for all degree recipients and their guests.

11:30 am GSAS Diploma Awarding Ceremony in Sanders Theatre for PhD and terminal Master's degree recipients begins immediately following the Morning Exercises. Additional seating is available at the Science Center.

12:00 pm Buffet luncheon begins on the Gropius Lawns behind Perkins Hall, 35 Oxford Street, and continues until approximately 3:00 p.m., for all degree recipients and their guests.

1:30 pm Alumni Procession Begins

2:15 pm Afternoon Exercises begin in Harvard Yard. President Bok gives his address, followed by a distinguished Commencement speaker. This event is generally less crowded than the Morning Exercises; degree candidates and their guests are encouraged to attend.
